Nice zinc Wehrmacht Landesschützen related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the 1.Rekrutenkompanie Landesschützen Bataillon 472. tHis unit was formed in in late August 1939 as Landesschützen Bataillon XXII/VI in Detmold. In 1940 the bataillon moved to Münster and in April of that year it was renamed into Landesschützen Bataillon 472. It stayed the entire was in Münster.
The Landesschützen units had as main task to guard prisoner of war camps, fighting partisans and were used as occupation force. Later during the war they often became Sicherungs units.
The 'O' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
