Nice worn dog tag from a soldier who served/ was drafted in the 1.Kompanie Panzer Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 1.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows signs of wear. The bataillon was formed in August 1939 as Schützen Ersatz Bataillon 1. It trained and supplied soldiers for different units such as Schützen Regiment 1 which was part of the 1.Panzer-Division and Schützen Regiment 111 which was part of the 11.Panzer-Division.
In August 1942 it was renamed Panzer Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 1 and it still supplied soldier for the, by then renamed, Panzergrenadier Regiment 1 and 111. The bataillon was renamed into Panzer Grenadier Ersatz und Ausbildungs Bataillon 1 in April 1944.
Soldiers of a Schützen Regiment (later Panzergrenadier Regiment) are the ones you often see in the Sd.Kfz's (halftracks) and are part of a Panzer Regiment.
The 'O' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodype.
Interesting Panzer infanterie related dog tag.
