Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht Pionier related tag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the 1.Kompanie Pionier Bataillon 31. This bataillon was formed in October 1937 as part of the 31.Infanterie-Division. With this divison the bataillon participated in the invasion of Poland in September 1939. After Poland it participated in the invasion of Belgium and then France. In June 1941 it operated in Russia in areas like Minsk, Smolensk, Moskau, Bobruisk and Mogilew.
In June 1944 the bataillon (and division) was destroyed. It was rebuild again in July 1944 as Pionier-Kompanie 31 and was now part of the 550.Grenadier-Division.
The 'AB' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
