Very nice Wehrmacht Pionier related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 1.Kompanie Pionier Bataillon 171. This unit was formed in late August in Hannover. It was part of the 71.Infanterie-Division and saw it's first combat during the invasion of Luxemburg, Belgium and then France. In July 1941 it participated in the fights on the Russian front and operated in the area of Kiev, Charkow, Donbogen and Stalingrad were it got destroyed in February 1943. In March 1943 a new Pionier Bataillon 171 was formed and was again part of the rebuild 71.Infanterie-Division. In September 1943 it operated in Italy in areas like Triest, Nettuno, Cassino and Adria.
