Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht Landesschützen related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the 1.Kompanie Landesschützen Bataillon 496. This unit was formed in January 1941 from the I.Bataillon Infanterie Regiment 660. It operated in Wesermünde after it as formed. It later operated in Munsterlager and Hamburg.
The Landesschützen units had as main task to guard prisoner of war camps, fighting partisans and were used as occupation force. Later during the war they often became Sicherungs units.
