Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the 1.Kompanie Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 697. This unit was formed in late December 1940. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 697 which was part of the 342.Infanterie-Division. This division saw its first action in Yugoslavia and from March 1942 on it operated in Russia. It fought in areas like Rshew, Mogilew, Kowel and Baranow.
Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 697 moved to France in November 1941 were it stayed until the Allies landed and it was used to form different Kampfgruppen.
The 'AB' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
