Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht Heer related dog tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the 1.Kompanie Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 51 (motorisiert). This bataillon was formed in August of 1939 in Liegnitz. It trained and supplid soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 51. The regiment was part of the 18.Infanterie-Division. This division and her units were put into action during the invasion of Poland in September 1939 and then during the invasion of France in May 1940. After France it participated in the invasion of Russia which started in June 1941.
Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 51 was used to form Schützen Ersatz Bataillon 110 in December 1940. A new bataillon was formed, this time Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon (motorisiert) 51 was formed.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldiers bloodtype.
