Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the 1.Kompanie Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 27. This unit was formed in late August 1939 in Rostock. It trained and supplied soldier for Infanterie Regiment 27 which was part of the 27.Infanterie-Division. This division saw its first combat during the invasion of Poland in September 1939. After that it participated in the invasion of France and in June 1941 in the invasion of Russia. It fought in areas like Demjansk, Witebsk and Grodno. It was destroyed in June 1944 and in August 1944 the 12.Volks-Grenadier-Division was formed from remnants of the old division. It fought in Aachen, Eifel and Ruhrkessel.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's blood type.
On the back of the tag the soldier carved in his pownr. 387262, his name Hubert Hötte and the cities of Waldhausen and Lippstadt.
