Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the 1.Kompanie Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 178. This bataillon was formed in late August 1939 in Postdam. It was part of Divison 153 and it trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 178 which was part of the 79.Infanterie-Division. This division was put into action during the invasion of Luxemburg and then France. After France it participated in the invasion of Russia which started in June 1941. It fought in areas like Jassy, Donbogen and Stalingrad where it got destroyed. The division (and her units) was rebuild in March 1943 in France.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
