Very nice Fallschirmjäger dogtag in good condition that belonged to a soldier that served in 1.Jäger Kompanie Fallschirmjäger Aufklarungs Abteilung 12. The abteilung fell under the command of the II.Fallschirm-Korps and was formed in January 1944. On paper the 1rd company of the abteilung should have been equipped with Panzerspähwagens (sdkfz 251), mortars, MG's, but by May 1944 it had no armored vehicles and half of the MG's and mortars. The commander of 1rd company was Leutnant V Konitz.
During the Normandy invasion the unit saw heavy combat in the St.Lo area and later in the Falaise pocket where it got surrounded, but was rescued by the II.SS-Panzer-Korps.
It was then moved to Kleve (Germany) to strengthen and saw combat again during Operation Market Garden in the Groesbeek area.
Very interesting dogtag.
