Nice zinc Fallschirmjäger erkennungsmarke in used, but fine condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier that was drafted in 1.Kompanie Fallschirmjäger Ersatz Bataillon 2 (Stendal). The bataillon was formed in early November 1943. It trained and supplied soldiers for the II.Fallschirm-Korps, 2 & 3.Fallschirm-Jäger Division. All saw combat during the Allied invasion in Normandy in June 1944.
After the invasion some saw action in the same areas like Arnhem,Nijmegen,Hürtgenwald,Reichwald,Battle of the Bulge,Eifel,Remagen.
The ersatz bataillon was stationed in Stendal in Januari 1945. In Febrauri of that year it was renamed in to Fallschirm-Genesenden-Bataillon 2 so it could also be that the soldier was drafted in the 1.Kompanie of this unit.
The 'T' on both parts of the tag means that the soldier got his tetanus shot.
